The Rock

“Good evening, people of the church!” yelled the pastor from upon the stage. “Today, just as every weekend, it is now time for the special service to begin”, a smile began to cross his left cheek just of the thought of his usual message. “We have gathered here today to be reminded that Christ is our rock and foundation as it was written in the book of Matthew, chapter 7, verse 24. Without this foundation in our lives the rocking of the waves and the gusts of wind will tear down your very soul. For the life given to us from our father in Heaven should be given back as a gesture of obedience. Ahhh, but you see, there are those that break. Just as the temple was split in two by our ancestors during the crucification of our Lord Jesus Christ so shall the ones that defile Him. Listen closely, we follow the rock that our church has been based upon. Even though Peter the apostle was the foundation for this church, our souls are carved within the heart of the true One. Nothing is able to wash away the engravings from our soul. Us as a congregation must remember this for the truth will set you free. Free from what you may ask. It is not that those who believe are bonded by anything of this world but those who continue to live in it. We have been set apart from this bond yet there are still certain individuals who continually fall back into slavery”. At that moment, two men dragged a women onto the stage. “Your eyes are able to witness that this women had committed a crime punishable by death.” The crowd began to uproar in shame and terror that the woman on stage was once related to her. Ushers began to pass a tray down the lines of the audience. Each person receiving what they longed for. “This woman,” the pastor yelled louder and louder, “Needs to be set free from this world. This woman needs to acknowledge her sins! This woman needs to feel the truth! Christ is our rock and foundation and He is the powerful weapon towards those who defile Him!” The crowd stood up from their chairs and through stones that were passed around. The woman looked up towards Heaven and whispered, “Forgive”.

Conclusion on thoughts:

I find it interesting that during the potential stoning of the woman who was caught in the act of adultery was spared and forgiven by Jesus. Not that forgiveness should not be given to her but that the weapon of judgment are stones. It is true that God is the rock and foundation for all Christians. However a reminder needs to be given that this rock, the rock of truth, is in all hands of Christ. The power to condemn others for those whose acts are of shame. The power to throw words that are sharp when others strive wrong. How easy it would be to simply toss the rock at someone. The urge fights through the arm trying to correct what has been wronged. God is able to do so but the reminder that those who through the rock have no right. The truth does hurt when correcting a mistake but the rock in the hands of those who hold them should be reminded that this weapon is meant for themselves.
